UGI is serving as a fiscal sponsor for The Friends of Liberty Hill Camas Bluff, which is a community group working to safeguard and protect a unique piece of 200+ acre property in St Helens, Oregon that is rich with native oak, camas, and other indigenous plants and wildlife. Not only it serves critical ecological value, the site also serves indigenous cultural value with its abundance of sacred camas and oak.
The group is fighting to protect this piece of land from mining, which is currently under permit review for mining 12 acres of its sensitive wetland, meadows and woodlands supporting 230 species of native plants. While they fight to oppose mining on this specific site, there are several other properties around that provide great mining resources and does not impact the ecological integrity of the region.
UGI is working the Friends of Liberty Hill to raise funding for their work to support legal services to fight the permit application, website maintenance and creating public outreach and education materials about the site.
